The Tower of London and the Domesday/Doomsday Book
One of William's invention, or in this a creation, was the Tower of London. It was built as a home at the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. It was actually a castle, with towers. The White Tower was and still is the central tower of the castle. It was a keep, or a donjon. Another reason William the Conqueror is so famous is because he created the Domesday Book (also known as the Doomsday Book). It is often known as "Medieval England's finest treasure." It took place about 20 years after the Battle of Hastings. The original Domesday Book is still present in a chest at The National Archives in Kew, London. Conqueror has contributed a huge historical resource to our society today. It is a detailed survey or a census of the land held by William the Conqueror and his people. It was also full of questions like "How much money is the worth"and "Who are the occupies of this land?" It was started in 1085 and completed sometime in 1086. The Domesday Book let's us know what life was like in England and what the population in England was at the time.
